Apple picking: questions and answers

When is apple picking season?

Early varieties start in mid-August, and most orchards are busiest from September to mid-October. Late apples like Fuji, Granny Smith and Pink Lady can run into November in the South and West.

How do you pick an apple without damaging the tree?

Lift the apple up and give it a gentle twist. A ripe apple comes off with its stem; if you have to pull hard, it isn't ready yet. Don't shake branches or climb the trees.
