Pick your own strawberries: questions and answers

When is strawberry picking season?

It depends on where you live: Florida and South Texas pick from late winter, the Southeast from April, the Mid-Atlantic in May and the North and Pacific Northwest in June and early July. A season usually lasts three to six weeks.

What is the best time of day to pick strawberries?

Go in the morning. Berries are cool and firm, the best fields are not picked over yet, and many farms close a field once it is picked out for the day.

Do I need to bring containers?

Most farms sell or lend baskets and charge by the pound or by the container. Some allow your own containers, so check the farm's website.
