Pumpkin patches: questions and answers

When do pumpkin patches open?

Most open in mid- to late September and stay open through Halloween. Weekends in October are the busiest, so go on a weekday or early in the day if you can.

How do you pick a good pumpkin?

Choose one with a firm, dry stem and no soft spots. Carry it from the bottom, not by the stem, which can snap off and shortens how long the pumpkin keeps.
